Pedestrian hit crossing Higdon Ferry Road

A pedestrian was struck by a car while attempting to cross Higdon Ferry Road near Oaklawn Park Wednesday morning, according to Hot Springs police.

Eligio Pascual, 77, of Hot Springs, was crossing Higdon Ferry walking east shortly before 9 a.m. when he was struck by a southbound 2002 Honda Accord driven by Keasha Morgan, 21, of Hot Springs, Officer 1st Class Joey Williams said.

Pascual was injured and transporte­d by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. Morgan was cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license and failure to yield to a pedestrian, Williams said.

LH fire district election certified

The Garland County Election Commission on Wednesday certified the results from the Feb. 13 special election creating the Lake Hamilton Fire District.

The unofficial results were identical to those certified Wednesday, with voters in the Lake Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department’s jurisdicti­on approving the formation of a fire district 356-113. More than 7 percent of the 6,354 voters eligible to vote in the election cast ballots.

Forming a fire district will allow the department to have its annual dues levied on real property tax bills, beginning with 2018 real estate taxes mailed in February 2019 and due the following October.

Whittingto­n to close for Van Davis 5K event

Whittingto­n Avenue, from Central Avenue to Whittingto­n Park, will be closed to through traffic Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. for the Van Davis Memorial 5K Walk/Run.

Signs will be posted, and motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the street closure.
