Lena B.H. Adams

-

Lena Brownie Hicks Adams, age 89, was born Jan. 29,

1929, at the family homestead on Turkey Trot Lane in Hot Springs, Ark., the youngest of seven children to Toudy and Alice Hicks. Lena passed away Feb. 20, 2018, at Village Springs Health and Rehab. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: brothers, Ervin Hicks, Homer Hicks and Harlan Hicks; sisters, Ethel Lowder and Jessie Murry.

Lena was a cosmetologist in her younger years, spending time in California. Lena married Nelson Andrew Adams on Sept. 18, 1959, and waited nearly 10 years before they were able to adopt Tammy Sue and another three years before adopting James Michael (Mike), whom preceded both Nelson and Lena in 1992 at the age of 23.

Left to cherish and hold her memory close are: daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Sue and Marty Brown and their children, Bayley and Braxton (her beloved “Mimi’s girl” and “Baskin”); and Mike’s son, grandson, Christopher Adams; nephews, Tony Hicks (Bobbie) and family, Wes Lowder and family; and many great-nieces and -nephews and close family friends, Randy and Lou Hamilton and family.

Lena was of Southern Baptist faith and a longstanding member of Harvey’s Chapel Baptist Church. Many a note and written prayers have been found under her pillow throughout the years and can still be found in her family Bible whenever something worrisome was on her mind, especially concerning her kids and grandkids. She loved to fish and enjoyed numerous campouts and fish fry’s at Hicks Point and making cookies for the trips, even if one time they were “judged” to be burnt.

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that takes your loved one away daily a little bit at a time, but the care and compassion she has received compels the family to acknowledge the loving staff and support she has received from Village Springs Health and Rehab over the last four years and the most recent compassionate support from Dierksen Hospice. Live, Laugh, Love everyday because you never know how much time you have. Rest now Mimi and hug Pop, you’re back home at last.
