Arkansas Tech stuns OBU late

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Arkansas Tech scored

7 runs in the final two innings of play as they came from behind to defeat Ouachita Baptist

7-6 on Friday night.

The offense for Ouachita (4-13, 1-6 Great American Conference) cranked out a season-high 15 hits in the loss to Arkansas Tech

(9-6, 4-3).

The Tigers got on the board in the first inning. Kyle Alexander singled to the shortstop to score Tyler Riebock from third base.

A few innings went by until the Tigers offense struck again. Jakahari Howell singled through the hole between the shortstop and third basemen to score a run for the Tigers. Ouachita was not done scoring though as Riebock singled through the right side of the infield to put the Tigers up 3-0.

Ouachita led 3-0 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. A pair of Tech runners reached on fielding errors by Alexander and Riebock to begin the inning. Mark Vaughn then singled in two runs and brought the Wonder Boys within a run of the Tigers. That did not last long though as Kyle Gibbs blasted a threerun homer to give Tech a two-run lead.

Howell doubled to right field to begin the ninth inning. Riebock singled up the middle to bring the Tigers back within a run of Tech. With two outs in the inning, Preston Speers doubled in Austin White to tie the game at 5-5. Ty Owens doubled in the next at-bat to give Ouachita a 6-5 advantage going into the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers needed just three outs to secure their second conference win of the season. Ouachita turned a double play and were within an out of escaping with the win. Ben Miller came in to close out the game.

Patrick Miner entered the game as a pinch hitter and crushed a home run to tie the game at 6. Seth Wheeler then entered as a pinch hitter and kept the inning alive with a two-out double. Cody Wescott singled up the middle in the next at-bat to give Tech the come from behind win.

Riebock was the top hitter for the Tigers as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBIs in the game. Senior pitcher J.F. Matros went 7 1/3 innings and only allowed one earned run.

The Tigers and the Wonder Boys finished off the series with a doublehead­er on Saturday.
