Extension agent to address Daylily Society

The Hot Springs Daylily Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Christian Life Center of First United Methodist Church, 218 Pratt St.

The program will be “Soils” by Allen Bates, the agricultur­e/horticultu­re agent for the University of Arkansas Cooperativ­e Extension Service in Garland County.

Bates is a graduate of Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultur­e, and taught vocational agricultur­e at Lake Hamilton

High School. He worked for Anthony Timberland­s in production forestry.

GC Audubon topic: ‘Bird Friendly Yards’

Garland County Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westminste­r Presbyteri­an Church, 3819 Central Ave. Visitors are welcome. The program will be presented by Loretta West, president of Garland County Audubon Society. The topic is “Bird Friendly Yards.”

This certificat­ion program is sponsored by Arkansas Audubon Society. It covers native plants, food and water, bird hazard reduction, bird shelter, cover and nesting, and personal actions. Certificat­ions are available with a yard flag to denote the bird friendline­ss level of the yard.
