Traffic stop leads to drug charges
A Hot Springs man reportedly driving on a suspended license was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop by Garland County sheriff’s deputies when drugs and paraphernalia were allegedly found in his possession.
Jason Dale Lyon, 40, who lists a Thornton Ferry Road address, was taken into custody shortly before 1 p.m. and charged with felony counts of possession of meth with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, punishable by up to one year in jail.
Lyon remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $11,000 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, around 12:30 p.m. Wednes- day, Deputy
Roy Elliot was on patrol in the area of Werner Street and Central Avenue when he observed a green GMC Sonoma that matched a suspect vehicle from an earlier call involving a disturbance.
Elliot made a traffic stop on the vehicle for driving without a license plate in the 100 block of Werner and soon determined Lyon had a suspended license so he was taken into custody.
Sgt. Josh Cannon and Investigator Matthew Ellis arrived at the scene to assist. Ellis reportedly found a set of digital scales in his vehicle and a blue pouch containing three baggies of an off-white crystal substance that later tested positive for meth, 6.7 grams, in Lyon’s jacket pocket.
While being patted down at the detention center, Lyon handed deputies a baggie containing a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana, about 1 gram.
