CHI St. Vincent makes two announcements

CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute electrophysiologists is now seeing patients in Hot Springs. Drs. Tom Wallace, Mangaraju “Raj” Chakka and Prabhat Hebbar consult with patients who otherwise would have to travel to a Little Rock clinic to receive care from an electrophysiologist.

This expansion of care to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs makes it easier for patients with heart arrhythmias, like atrial fibrillation, to be diagnosed and treated close to home.

“Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, is an epidemic in this country,” said Wallace in the press release. “Left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening conditions, such as heart failure and stroke. Many of our patients live in Hot Springs. I am glad that we will be able to see them in a location that is convenient and closer.”

The physicians will see patients in the Hot Springs Heart Center on the CHI St. Vincent campus at 200 Heartcenter Lane. Five full-time cardiologists practice at this location — Drs. Yuba Acharya, Michael Frais, Oyidie Igbokidi, Nazneen Tata and Srinivas Vengala. They consult closely with the EP specialists and look forward to having Wallace, Chakka and Hebbar in the Hot Springs office.

CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute provides access to Arkansas’ largest and most diverse network of heart specialists providing services in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Hot Springs, Searcy and Conway and more than 25 community locations. Heart specialists at CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute use the latest treatments for all forms of heart disease — from common problems to rare or life-threatening conditions.

CHI St. Vincent has named Forrest Whichard as vice president of operations. CHI St. Vincent includes four hospitals and dozens of clinics throughout Arkansas.

Whichard joins CHI St. Vincent’s leadership team after serving as chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Great Falls Clinic Hospital and Surgery Center in Great Falls, Mont. At CHI St. Vincent, Whichard will oversee perioperative, therapy, lab and imaging services and security, among other operational responsibilities.

Before working in Montana, Whichard was regional CFO for Ochsner Health System in Louisiana and Mississippi, and was named Ochsner’s new executive of the year in 2013. As CEO of Doctors Hospital at Deer Creek in Leesville, La., he successfully opened a new physician-owned hospital on time and under budget.

“Forrest’s breadth of experience will be a welcome addition to our team,” said Polly Davenport, president of CHI St. Vincent Infirmary and CHI St. Vincent North, in the release. “We are glad to have Forrest working alongside us as our ministry continues to grow to serve the needs of the community.”

Whichard has bachelor’s degrees in management and in accounting and a Master’s of Business Administration from Southeastern Louisiana University. He has been in a number of health care finance and operations positions in his career.

He and his wife, Cindy, and two children live in Little Rock.

CHI St. Vincent, founded in 1888, is the largest integrated and community-based physician organization in Arkansas — a system with more than 1 million patient visits per year, serving patients from all 75 counties in Arkansas. CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, an acute-care facility, licensed for 615 beds, is located in Little Rock and is ranked the “best hospital” in Arkansas by U.S. News and World Report and is the first hospital in Arkansas to earn Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs is an acute-care facility licensed for 282 beds. Other CHI St. Vincent hospitals include CHI St. Vincent North, licensed for 69 beds, in Sherwood; CHI St. Vincent Morrilton, a critical access hospital in Morrilton, licensed for 25 beds; and CHI St. Vincent West, an outpatient campus in west Little Rock. The system includes a network of 300 primary care and specialty physicians, a home health agency, a joint venture inpatient rehabilitation facility, and affiliations with more than 1,000 physicians.
