Winnie M. Chunn

Winnie M. Chunn, age 105, of Hot Springs, died Monday, March 19, 2018, at Quapaw Care and Rehabilita­tion Center.

She was born on Oct. 31,

1912, to Ellis Batterton and Vada Kemp Batterton in Hot Springs, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Don Carlos Chunn.

She is survived by her son, Don Chunn and wife, Jane Chunn, of Mesquite, Texas; grandson, Mark Chunn, of Hot Springs; granddaugh­ter, Donna Matheou, of Mesquite, Texas; three great-grandchild­ren, one great-great-granddaugh­ter, as well as nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Winnie was a lifetime member of Mount Olive Community Church. In 2005, Mrs. Chunn was honored to be selected as AHCA Queen for District 1-A from Quapaw Care and Rehab Center. She enjoyed sewing and being a member of the ladies quilting group, as well as helping her husband on their dairy farm.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 23,

2018, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel with Brother J.B. Evans officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Rush Fork Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Winnie’s niece, Joan Collier, nephew, Ronnie Batterton, and lifelong friend, Wayne Watkins, who visited her daily. A special thanks is also extended to the compassion­ate care provided by the nurses of Quapaw Care and Kindred Hospice.

Pallbearer­s will be: Ronnie Batterton, Greg Rowe, Steve Batterton, Monty Watkins, Kirk Watkins, Kevin Collier, Arlie Bridges and Raymond Chunn.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be: Larry Collier, Wayne Watkins, Gary Bridges and Carrol Bridges.

Aleta G. Gossage

JESSIEVILL­E — Visitation for Aleta Gay Gossage, who passed away March 18, 2018, will be 5-7 p.m. today at Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Caruth Village Funeral Home with a burial following at Shed Cemetery in Onyx, Ark.

Wayne C. Kapple

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Wayne Claude Kapple, age 81, of Hot Springs Village, passed away on March 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 25, 1936, in Woodhull, Ill., to Claude Wesley and Florence Isabel Kapple.

He graduated from Alwood High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Army in April 1955 and completed his Basic Training at Fort Leonard, Mo., where he was assigned to the heavy Mortar Company, 16th Infantry Reg. in Fort Riley, Kan., specializi­ng in radio operations. He was discharged from the regular Army in June 1957 and he served in the Army Reserves until 1963.

Wayne began his working career in 1957 as a draftsman for Austin-Western Corporatio­n in Aurora, Ill. He then joined Anixter Wiring Corporatio­n as a salesman and became vice president of sales. He became the president and owner of The Kapple Company in 1975, an independen­t sales rep firm for the marine manufactur­ing industry. Wayne retired in 2000 and moved with his spouse, Dolores, to Hot Springs Village, where he spent the rest of his days fishing, golfing, singing, volunteeri­ng and lending a hand to anyone in need. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity and fun-loving sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jerry and Glenn Kapple.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores Kapple; son, David Kapple (Darlene), of The Woodlands, Texas; daughters, Claudia Alexander (Dennis), of Medina, Tenn., and Susan Miller (Brian), of Sandwich, Ill.; grandchild­ren, Aubrey Cappi, Sam Hill (Kari), Jacob and Bradley Patrick, Lauren Hopper (Tony), Amanda Drake (Josh), Sarah Osborne (Mike), Nicholas Kapple (Melissa), Douglas Kapple, Jeremiah and Kristin Miller; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, Ark., with Father Bill Elser officiatin­g.

Betty S.S. McDowell

Betty Sue Sharp McDowell, age 73, of Hot Springs, died Friday, March 16, 2018.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 22, 2018, in the Oma Cemetery with Gwen Horton officiatin­g, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Pauline Pennington

Pauline Pennington, age 90, of Hot Springs, died Monday, March 19, 2018.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1927, in New Mexico, the daughter of Orbie William Vaughn and Oda Jester Vaughn. On June 6, 1945, she married C.L. Carnish Pennington who preceded her in death on March 11, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde Vaughn and Dewitt Vaughn; and three sisters, Myrtle Grant, Martha Brown and Linda Senn.

Pauline attended Malvern First Assembly of God and was a homemaker. She worked for many years alongside her husband in most of his profession­al ventures. She also worked for Curtis Mathes Television in Benton and National Rejectors in Hot Springs. Pauline always made sure that her children and family came first.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Vic and Reba Pennington; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dale Clem, all of Hot Springs; three grandchild­ren, Shannon Pennington, Chase and Jenni Clem, Cory Clem (Nikki Skrivanos); two great-grandchild­ren, Josh Brown and Jake Brown; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mount Tabor Community Church, Glenwood, with the Rev. Jimmy Bobo officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearer­s will be Shannon Pennington, Chase Clem, Cory Clem, Troy Senn, Josh Brown and Jake Brown.

Kimberly A. Ursery

DeGRAY COMMUNITY — Kimberly Ann Ursery, age 51, of the DeGray Community, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Third Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphi­a.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday at Third Street Baptist Church.

Bonnie Walby

Bonnie Walby, 82, passed away Feb. 16, 2018.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Blanche Jennings, and one brother, Joe Jennings.

She is survived by her two sons, John Walby, of Hot Springs, and James Walby, of Missoula, Mont.; two brothers, Mark and Hugh Jennings; and one sister, Jani O’Donnell; as well as many good friends from the Loyal Order of the Moose and Women of the Moose.

Bonnie’s memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Jesus Name Tabernacle Church, 599 Fleetwood Road, Hot Springs.

Bessie Mae Canady Peoples Washington, 74, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, March 18, 2018.

Funeral service will be noon today, March 22, 2018, at Airport Road Church of Christ. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
