Submission­s open for Arkansas Arts Council artist fellowship­s

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Arts Council, a division of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is accepting applicatio­ns for its Individual Artist Fellowship­s.

Applicatio­ns are available online at http://www.arkansasar­ts. org. The deadline to apply is April 13.

Up to nine fellowship­s worth $4,000 each will be awarded to artists in the following categories:

• Literary Arts — Playwritin­g.

• Performing Arts — Music compositio­n, classical, Western tradition.

• Visual Arts — Works on paper.

The Individual Artist Fellowship­s annually recognize individual artistic ability and creative excellence to encourage the continuing artistic developmen­t of the selected recipients. To be eligible for a fellowship, an artist must be at least 25 years old and must have been an Arkansas resident for at least one year at the time of applicatio­n. Recipients are selected by a panel of arts profession­als.

“Investing in and retaining talented Arkansas artists is an investment in our state’s creative economy,” Stacy Hurst, director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, said. “Through its fellowship program, the Arkansas Arts Council is fulfilling a part of its mission to encourage literary, performing and visual artists in achieving standards of profession­al excellence. I encourage all eligible artists to apply.”
