Tigers fall in extras to Southeaste­rn

DURANT, Okla. — The Ouachita Baptist baseball team tied up Friday’s game in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough as Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State won, 6-5, in 11 innings in Great American Conference play.

The loss for Ouachita (10-18,

6-10) snapped a two-game winning streak against Southeaste­rn

(12-16, 7-9). Both schools are battling for a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament at the end of the season.

Ouachita’s offense stepped up in the top of the second inning to give the Tigers an early lead. Bo Sutton hit a one-out double to right field, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and came around to score the game’s first run on an RBI single by Aaron Studdard.

Freshman outfielder Louis Steen kept his nine-game hitting streak alive with an RBI single to right field to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Moments later and Tyler Riebock added on another pair of runs with a two-run single of his own.

Southeaste­rn grabbed a pair of runs back in the bottom of the third inning off a Travis Spinney double. The Savage Storm chipped and clawed their way back into the game and eventually took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Cade Clay came through with a clutch pinch hit single through the right side to give the Savage Storm their first lead of the game.

The Tigers began a rally in the top of the ninth inning. Logan Huneycutt and Chandler Blake drew full count walks to put runners on the bases. With two-outs in the inning, Steen came through with an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 5-5.

Riebock finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Steen went 2-for-5 also with a pair of RBIs.

John Franklin Matros (2-2) was hit with the loss on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings in a relief appearance.

Ouachita and Southeaste­rn finished the series with a doublehead­er on Saturday.
