HS Tech Learning Center announces schedule

The April schedule for classes presented by Hot Springs Tech Learning Center have been confirmed.

Windows 10 Basics will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 4, 11, 18 and 25. A home computer is not required to enroll in this course, however, having a computer is recommende­d as it will enhance one’s ability to practice the skills learned in the classroom. Topics to be covered include: parts of the computer, review of mouse usage, turn computer on/off, taskbar, start menu, desktop icons. WordPad will be used to give the student basics of word processing: tabs/groups, cut/paste/copy, formatting, backspace/delete, selecting text, printing, save/save as. Introducti­on to internet and email will be included.

Windows 10 Level 1 will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 5, 12, 19, 26. This course is a pre-requisite to all advanced Windows courses offered. Students should have a proficienc­y of the keyboard, mouse skills and reasonable computer knowledge to register for this course. Students will learn how to navigate through Windows 10, use of tiles, change basic settings, use File Explorer to organize files and folders, and use flash drives. The new Microsoft Edge browser will be covered — favorites, reading list, setting start pages. Email choices available in Windows 10 will be discussed. Pre-requisite: Windows 10 Basics.

A Dropbox workshop will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 6. Dropbox is an app where users can save files picture and videos on a cloud, where they can access them at any time they want, and share the files, pictures and videos to friends and family.

One-on-one help sessions will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 10. These sessions offer help on a topic that no workshop/class offers, and help the user register on a topic of their choice. Students will be matched with a staff member who can provide them with one-on-one help. Bring questions to these sessions.

A Pinterest workshop is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. April 20. It will introduce the basics of Pinterest. Pinterest is an online pinboard for saving and sharing things that interest a person. Friends can “follow” an individual’s boards and “pin” things that interest them from other people’s boards. Setting up the student’s account and the basic knowledge of using Pinterest will be addressed. This will be a handson class and students will use the classroom computers. Students will need a Pinterest account. Students who do not already have an account will set up an account at the beginning of the workshop.

Windows 10, backup/restore, Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon April 24. The objective will be to familiariz­e attendees with the multiple backup functions which Windows 10 offers. Basic terminolog­y will be explained with the multiple options for both preserving personal data and computer operating and program files. Alternativ­e methods of backing up both system and personal data will be explained and attendees given the opportunit­y to ask questions. The primary alternativ­es to be discussed are: backup to a cloud service and backup to either external or internal disk drives and/or DVD’s.

An iPhone Workshop, from 10 a.m. to noon April 26, will cover how to use features on the iPhone, including accessing the internet and email, installing apps, using the camera, sending pictures from the camera, using calendar, alarm clock, how to connect to WiFi networks. Students should bring their own iPhone.

Introducti­on to Computers Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon April 27. This workshop prepares students for other computer classes. No prior knowledge is required. Topics to be covered: turn on/off computer; mouse usage (left and right buttons); cut/copy/paste using WordPad; files/folders, create, save, delete.
