Teaching propaganda

-

Dear editor:

I keep intending to respond to John W. “Doc” Crawford’s letters each time they appear in the paper. Don’t remember ever agreeing with his opinions.

Doc’s letter of Sunday, March 25, I am not going to let slip by without commenting. He applauds students for walking out of classes to make a political statement, even calling it an act of courage defying their teachers and administrators. He states he is proud to be paying taxes in support of their “complete education, which includes teaching them to think.” If teachers are allowed to do their jobs properly, their students will learn to think on their own. If they don’t learn to think after 12 years of public schools, they’re not pushed hard enough and they have no business going to college.

Doc seems to confuse teaching to think with what schools actually do today, that is teaching them what to think. Most people call that propaganda. Schools today push a very left-wing liberal agenda, especially at college levels.

It doesn’t take a village Doc, it takes parents dedicated to raising their own kids and not letting the government or schools do it for them. Hence, they may not share your opinions or “attitudes,” but some would consider that a plus.

Violence in our schools need to be stopped, but it’s not the firearms or the NRA that is the problem. This country has always had abundant firearms. Probably a lot of reasons for our crumbling society, but in my opinion 50 to 60 million abortions since Roe v. Wade has diminished the value of life. C.O. Stover Hot Springs
