Lady Cobras strike Robinson in three

LITTLE ROCK — Joe T. Robinson was no match for freshman pitcher Hannah Vaughn and the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras Thursday night.

Vaughn pitched three no-hit innings, issuing two walks while striking out six as the Lady Cobras (2-3, 1-2 in 3A/4A-8) rolled to a 17-0 win on the road.

The freshman also had two hits in three at-bats, finishing with two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior Kaitlyn Bledsoe had three hits in three trips, racking up three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Lyndsey Blees, Mollie Davis and Alisa Smith each had two hits in three at-bats for the Lady Cobras. Smith had three RBIs, while Blees scored two runs and Davis had two RBIs with two runs scored.

Sophomore Jill Norman had a team-high three runs and three stolen bases with one hit in three at-bats.

The Lady Cobras hosted Malvern (3-8, 2-1) Monday night and travel to Gurdon (2-9, 0-2) today.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL MOUNTAIN PINE-POYEN

MOUNTAIN PINE — Mountain Pine had twice as many hits as Poyen Friday night, but the Indians made the most of their opportunit­ies.

Locked in a scoreless affair, Poyen (7-6, 2-0 in 1A/2A-12) plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning, later withstandi­ng a comeback bid by the Red Devils (2-8, 1-2) for a 3-1 win at Mountain Pine Field.

Batting eighth in the lineup, freshman Brandon Reed had one double, two RBIs and

one run scored for the Indians, while junior Jacob Farmer finished with one double and one RBI in three at-bats.

Sophomore Kayden Anzaldua had two hits in four plate appearance­s for Mountain Pine, driving in the team’s lone run of the game with a single in the bottom of the seventh.

Starter Matthew Herron dazzled in five innings for the Red Devils, allowing no runs on no hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks. Josh Walpole suffered the loss with three runs allowed on two hits and one walk in relief.

Farmer earned the win for Poyen, scattering three hits with three walks and nine strikeouts in six scoreless innings.

Mountain Pine hosted Sacred Heart (3-2) Monday night in a game reschedule­d from March 27. The Red Devils resume conference play Wednesday against visiting Magnet Cove (6-8, 3-1).
