Lakeside outlasts Pine Bluff in extras

PINE BLUFF — Faced with an early deficit, Lakeside flashed a flair for the dramatic Monday night at Pine Bluff.

Trailing 5-2 at the end of the third inning, the Rams (13-3, 5-0 in 5A/6A-6) bounced back with two runs in the fourth and sixth frames, but the Zebras (6-8) scored a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth to send the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Lakeside plated two runs in the top of the eighth and sophomore Ethan Bates retired the side in the bottom of the frame to secure the 8-6 win.

Prince had two doubles and two RBIs in three at-bats, while Brady Prince had two singles, one RBI and two runs scored in five plate appearance­s.

Leadoff man Justin Scott had three hits in four at-bats for the Rams, scoring two runs. Gage Golden and Zac Melugin each delivered one RBI.

Lakeside starter surrendere­d five runs, one earned, on six hits with no walks and one strikeout in four innings pitched. Prince allowed one run on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts in three innings of relief.

Rod Stinson had three hits and two RBIs in four at-bats for the Zebras, while Brandon Thomas drove in two runs and Wes Hunt had one RBI.

Pine Bluff starter Cason Blunt surrendere­d six runs on six hits with seven walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Lakeside was scheduled to play at Sheridan (12-2) Tuesday night before resuming conference play tonight at Texarkana

MOUNTAIN PINE-SACRED HEART

MOUNTAIN PINE — Four days after surrenderi­ng the winning run in a 3-1 loss to Poyen, Mountain Pine’s Josh Walpole fired a gem against visiting Sacred Heart Monday night.

The senior right-hander pitched a complete game, scattering two runs on two hits with three walks and 18 strikeouts in seven innings to give the Red Devils (3-8, 1-2 in 1A/2A-12) a 7-2 win.

Trailing 2-1 at the end of the fourth inning, Mountain Pine scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away from the Rebels (3-3).

Kayden Anzaldua and Chad Graves each had two hits in four at-bats for the Red Devils, while Walpole had one double, two RBIs and two runs scored in three at-bats.

Sacred Heart’s Qualyn James allowed one run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Freshman Phillip Drilling suffered the loss with six runs allowed on four hits in two innings of relief.

Mountain Pine is scheduled to resume conference play today against visiting Magnet Cove (6-9, 3-1).

JESSIEVILL­E-GLEN ROSE

GLEN ROSE — Averaging eight runs per game this season, Jessievill­e was held in check by Glen Rose starter Carson Fite Monday night.

The senior tossed six shutout innings, scattering three hits while striking out two and issuing no walks in a 10-0 win over the Lions (7-5, 1-3 in 3A/4A-8).

Tied 0-0 after two innings, the Beavers plated three runs in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open. Glen Rose (9-4, 4-0) added one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and three in the sixth to enact the mercy rule before the last frame.

Sophomore Trey McKim had three hits, one RBI and three runs scored in four at-bats for the Beavers. Adam Day, Jace Haynes and Jarred Rodgers each had two hits in four plate appearance­s.

Senior Mayson Bradshaw led Jessievill­e with two hits in two at-bats, while Chase Pedersen and Logan Perkins each had one hit.Starter Noah Eskew surrendere­d nine runs, three earned, on 10 hits with three walks and one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

The Lions are scheduled to travel to Perryville (3-3) Thursday night before resuming conference play Friday against visiting Fountain Lake (8-3, 1-2).
