ARTS, ETC.: Mid-America hosts Artist-in-Residence
Mid-America Science Museum will host the work of artist Gary Simmons, a renowned local artist and former art professor. Simmons has also written a book entitled “The Technical Pen: Techniques for Artists,” which was produced into an educational video.
Specializing in pen and ink and known by many for his work as a draughtsman, Simmons will be unveiling new and recent works for the opening of the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance Arts & the Park Launch Party on April 27 beginning at 6 p.m. at the museum.
The art series, called “Imagination Takes Wing,” examines the concept of flight using ink and pen drawings and other multimedia forms of art. This special show hosted by Mid-America Science Museum was created in conjunction with Simmons as the museum’s Artist-in-Residence and as featured artist for the 2018 Cultural Alliance Arts & the Park, which is a 10-day art festival running from April 27 to May 6.
An accomplished artist in several mediums, Simmons has hung works in the Arkansas Governor’s office, the White House, and in the homes of many celebrities. Infatuated by the organic nature of life and its results, Simmons’ work is a wonderful match for the Mid-America Science Museum, an environment that promotes curiosity and experience learning.
The Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance will also be presenting the 2018 Arts Ambassador Award to Davis Tillman, a local champion of the arts, as part of the evening’s celebration.
