Felon arrested for firearms, meth

A convicted felon was arrested late Wednesday after he was allegedly found in possession of meth and a stolen firearm during a traffic stop.

Ov Liketh Thomas, 34, who lists no current address, was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. and charged with felony counts of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of firearms by certain persons, possession of a controlled substance and theft by receiving, each punishable by up to six years.

Thomas remained in custody Thursday at the Garland County Detention Center on zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, at around 9 p.m. Wednesday Hot Springs National Park Ranger John Griggs observed a silver Buick Century weave across the centerline on West Mountain Drive and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Pecan Street.

Griggs reportedly observed quick movements by the rearseat passenger, later identified as Thomas.

When asked to exit the vehicle, the female driver, 37, claimed she did not know the rear-seat passenger, who continued to make movements that made Griggs believe he was hiding items beneath the seat. The driver, Thomas and a second passenger, 27, were all ordered out of the vehicle and detained.

The driver reportedly stated Thomas had told her he had drugs and a firearm inside her car and gave consent for them to search her car. Beneath the seat, Griggs reportedly found a 9-mm pistol later determined to be stolen and in the center console a loaded magazine and a plastic baggie of what later tested positive for meth were located.

On the driver’s side floorboard, a baggie of suspected marijuana, a marijuana cigarette and two pipes with marijuana residue were found.

Thomas reportedly said the drugs and gun belonged to him. A computer check revealed Thomas was convicted of a felony count of breaking or entering in Hot Springs on June 30, 2007.
