Whittington Place to host Donovan, Mayer in concert Saturday
Award-winning singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ricko Donovan will perform in concert with Fred Mayer at 7 p.m. Saturday at Whittington Place, 301 Whittington Ave.
Donovan also has two published novels to his credit. Nashville Magazine declared “Sunnyville” a “delightful, engaging read that allows you to fully appreciate everything good in your life, body and soul,” a news release said.
Mayer has been making music for decades by providing services as musical performer and educator. He also works as a Tama Do practitioner for sound healing. Based for many years in the Ozark Mountains of Eureka Springs, Mayer recently relocated to Fort Myers, Fla., with his wife, Linda.
Donovan and Mayer first connected as a folk music duo back in 2008 in Eureka Springs at a Gaviola Chapel house concert when Donovan was a touring artist out of Nashville, Tenn. They reconnected last year in Florida while Donovan was busy promoting his novel “Sunnyville,” and shared a string of performances including the notable “Celtic Ray” in Punta Gorda. Donovan recently relocated to Hot Springs and has found his footing as a performer in the Spa City and as a radio personality on KUHS 102.5 community radio. His world music show airs on Fridays from 2-4 p.m.
The program will include Donovan’s songs and a good share of traditional folk music and more ethereal sounds featuring the hammered dulcimer and the MonoKotRa, a zither instrument based on the Japanese koto for which Mayer is both the inventor and patent holder.
