Omar L. Skates

PEARCY — Omar Lee Skates, age 86, of Pearcy, died Thursday, March 29, 2018.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1931, in Point Cedar, the son of Charles Wesley Skates and Essie Lillie Spann Skates. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Helene Louise Skates; his parents; one son-in-law, Gene Wheeler; two brothers, Nathaniel Skates and Winston Skates; two sisters, Vernell Capehart and Murleen Golden; and beloved aunt, Effie Spann.

Omar was a member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle and retired from National Rejectors after 25 years of service. A United States Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Janell Skates, of Pearcy; one son, Randy (Rebecca) Skates, of Sims; three daughters, Cynthia Wheeler, of New Braunfels, Texas, Regenia Skates and Melissa Skates, both of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Jennifer Skates, Danielle Wheeler, Aaron Skates, Patsy Simmons and Zach Young; two great-grandchildren, Bryson Simmons and Remi Belle Simmons; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment will be in Wesleyann Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
