Altrusa recognizes 4.0 high school students
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Altrusa International of Hot Springs Village Inc. recently held its 13th Annual 4.0 GPA Student Recognition and Scholarship Luncheon in the Grand Ballroom of the Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock. Jessieville, Mountain Pine and Cutter Morning Star high school students who received a 4.0 grade point average in the fall 2017 semester were welcomed to be the guests of the Altrusa International club at the luncheon.
This year, because of the success of the program, Altrusa is hosting the luncheon on two separate dates. This is the first year that Cutter Morning Star is participating and Fountain Lake will attend on a separate date.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson spoke to the students on the importance of education. Guest speaker Maxwell Blade entertained the students and their families.
President Nancy Luehring, event Chair Valerie Derryberry and school counselors presented each student with a certificate congratulating them for their accomplishment. They presented a special certificate and a $500 scholarship to seven high school seniors who maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout their four-year high school career: Madison Dixon from Cutter Morning Star; Johnathan Bates, Chloe Davis and Noah Eskew of Jessieville; and Kelly Currington, Cora Hurst and Ali Meeks from Mountain Pine.
Without the scholarships sponsored from local businesses, individuals and other organizations and the work on fundraisers of the HSV Altrusa members, this 4.0 project would not be possible.
