DAC holds assembly, installs new chapter officers
The Lt. Samuel Cherry Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists held its annual assembly and elected new chapter officers. Elected and installed were Lisa Winkleman, regent; Teresa Clark, vice regent; Catherine Fortney, chaplain; Mary Jean Hall, secretary; MarJo Dill, treasurer; Betty Harp, registrar and Frances Jernigan, historian. The officers will serve a two-year term.
Winkleman is experienced in leading service organizations such a DAC and is the Arkansas governor of the Jamestowne Society and the Arkansas governor of the Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims. A genealogist, she holds memberships in Daughters of the American Revolution, United States Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames 17th Century and the Colonial Dames of America.
The object of DAC is patriotic, historical and educational; to make research as to the history and deeds of the American colonists and to record and publish the same; to commemorate deeds of colonial interest; to inculcate and foster love of America and its institutions by all its residents and to obey its laws and venerate its flag — the emblem of its power and civic righteousness. DAC is a supporter of military veterans, active duty military and award JROTC medals to deserving high school cadets.
The Lt. Samuel Cherry Chapter has served Arkansas since its organization in 1932. Eligibility for membership in DAC is lineal descent from an ancestor who gave service prior to July 4, 1776. For information about the activities or membership in the chapter, email Winkleman at lwink29@gmail.com.
