Wells inks for Ouachita Baptist

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton senior guard Taylor Wells inked her name to a letter of intent to join the Ouachita Baptist Tigers women’s basketball team next season after her record-breaking senior season for the Lady Wolves.

Wells broke a 29-year-old Lake Hamilton record for 3-pointers in a season as she sank a total of 98 during her senior season. The record, set in 1989 by Brandi (Love) Higginbotham, was broken when the 5-7 senior sank her 64th trey against Magnolia early this year.

“I’m so proud of her for the work she put in,” said Lake Hamilton head coach Blake Condley. “She was able to see and achieve her goal because of that work. I think it is fantastic, and I’m super happy for her.”

The soon-to-be Tiger averaged 11 points per game and the rebounds per game in her senior season, as she was named to The Sentinel-Record All-Garland County Second Team in March.

While Wells originally had no expectation to play in college, she said Ouachita Baptist was where she wanted to attend.

“She planned all along to go to OBU as a student,” Condley said. “She had no expectation to play, but after her season, a spot came open. Coach (Garry)

I’m glad it really worked out well for her.” among the senior class that propelled the team to 52 wins in Wells helped lead the Lady Wolves to the Class 6A basketball the past three seasons.
