Hot Springs Music Club scholarshi­p winners announced

Kathie White, president of the Hot Springs Music Club, announced Wednesday the winners of the HSMC Music Scholarshi­ps for the current club year. Auditions were held on April 14 at First United Methodist Church.

College division

• First place — Katie Garner, awarded $700.

• Second place — Jamie Brock, awarded $500.

High school division

• First place — Sarah-Marie Linneman, awarded $500.

• Second place — Kathryn Webb, awarded

$300.

• Third place — Anna Cole, awarded $150. Scholarshi­ps will be used at both in-state and out-of-state colleges as the winners pursue degrees in music. All winners are residents of Garland County who are or will be majoring in music at an accredited college. Winners can audition in subsequent years.

HSMC has sponsored these scholarshi­ps for many years, a news release said. The mission of the club is to promote the musical culture of its members and to foster in the community an increased knowledge and love of good music. It has been a member of the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs since its inception in 1951.

HSMC annually sponsors a Junior Music Festival that features performanc­es by youths who receive written feedback from a qualified judge. Public concerts of members’ performanc­es throughout the year are presented for free. Music patrons may obtain informatio­n about membership at any of the public concerts.
