A reportedly intoxicated Hot Springs man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend at their residence.

Richard Lee Gurley, 37, of 790 Bull Bayou Road, Apt. F, was taken into custody shortly after 12:30 a.m. at his residence and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Gurley, who also had a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of public intoxication, was being held on zero bond and set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after midnight, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Richard Garrett was dispatched to the residence regarding a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, he spoke to the victim, 37, who stated her live-in boyfriend and father of two of her children, identified as Gurley, was “drunk” and attacked her.

She alleged he punched her in the face and arms causing pain and redness. Gurley had to be pulled off her by a friend, also allegedly intoxicated, who was still there when

Garrett arrived but refused to make a statement.

Garrett noted Gurley had bruising and swelling and blood on his face and his injuries were reportedly caused by the friend after he pulled him off the victim, but Gurley declined to press any charges.

LifeNet responded to check Gurley’s injuries and his level of intoxication and he was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment and evaluation. He was later released and taken to the detention center.
