Guinn, Honey headline All-Star selections

After starring for the Hot Springs Lady Trojans for the last three seasons, guards Ariana Guinn and Imani Honey will suit up for one last game together this summer.

Fresh off of a Class 5A state championsh­ip, Guinn and Honey were named to the Arkansas High School Coaches Associatio­n all-star basketball roster released last week.

Both players will compete for the West squad coached by Charleston coach Jason Rucker and assisted by Hot Springs coach Josh Smith, Ozark coach Bret Nagle and Kirby coach Robert Tucker.

Guinn averaged 19 points, three rebounds and two assists per game this season, while Honey recorded 15 points, six assists and five rebounds per contest.

2018 Girls Basketball Co-Players of the Year after leading the Lady Trojans to a record of

31-3 and the fifth state title in program history.

Other members of the West team include Watson Chapel’s Jerica Bell, Kirby’s Gracen Smith and Lake Hamilton’s Taylor Wells.

Wells averaged 11 points per game and set the program record for 3-pointers in a season

with 98 as the Lady Wolves advanced to the Class 6A semifinals for the second time in as many years.

Wells recently signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Ouachita Baptist University.

Guinn, Honey and Wells will compete against an East roster that includes the nation’s No. 1 recruit in Central Arkansas Christian guard Christyn Williams.

The University of Connecticu­t signee scored 42 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in CAC’s 68-57 win over Riverview in the Class 4A state championsh­ip at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

The East squad is coached by Nettleton coach Jason Smith and assisted by North Little Rock coach Daryl Fimple, CAC coach Steve Quattlebau­m and Wonderview coach Jeremy Simon.

Elsewhere in Garland County, Jessievill­e’s Alex Burleson headlines the West boys roster led by Kirby coach Marty Smith and assisted by Heritage coach Tom Olsen, Pottsville coach Shane Thurman and Morrilton coach Keith Zackery.

Named The Sentinel-Record’s 2018 Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Burleson averaged 24 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game as the Lions finished 24-7 overall and 16-1 in the 3A/4A8 blended conference under first-year coach Jared White.

Joining Burleson on the West squad are Kirby’s Carson Smith, Benton’s Jai Peters, Bentonvill­e’s Asa Hutchinson and Sheridan’s Tyler Cleveland, among others.

The East roster is headlined by a trio of future Arkansas Razorbacks in Little Rock Parkview’s Ethan Henderson, Fort Smith Northside’s Isaiah Joe and Jonesboro’s Desi Sills.

Henderson and Sills guided their teams to state championsh­ips this season, while Joe was named the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year after the Grizzlies fell to North Little Rock in the Class 7A title game.

The East squad is coached by Jonesboro Westside coach Mark Whitmire and assisted by West Memphis coach Mar- cus Brown, Guy-Perkins coach John Hutchcraft and Marked Tree coach Barbara Wilburn.

Both basketball games are in June at the Farris Center during all-star week at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
