It won’t happen to me

- Janie Smith

Life is an amusing array of surprises — both good and bad — for all of us. Our ability to accommodate unforeseen changes is part of growth. Usually, those changes are blessings — such as my daughter’s birth late in life for us. It may have taken a while to stop calling her room the guest room, but we managed to make the change.

One of the many requests for help came from a businessman. He is still young, physically fit and very busy. As many small businesses are, he does all of the work himself. Few people plan for a catastrophe. Most small businesses are month-to-month operations. Unfortunately, he became unable to work due to a major health issue. All of a sudden he was almost destitute as the illness lingered on. He is on his way to recovery, however, he also mounted up a fair amount of debt.

He needed help. Jackson House, along with others, worked to provide the things needed including food and medications. He even needed clothes due to weight loss. Many times he said I never thought this would happen to me. I wasn’t prepared. I am so glad you as donors helped us to keep him afloat while he recovered. Now he is back to work and doing well.

Jackson House is often the only place who will help with things that are unexpected and outside of the “norm.” Please remember that working families, children, seniors, homeless, veterans, etc., need our help. We cannot make a difference if you don’t help us. Every dollar counts. Donate to www.jacksonhouse.org, mail to 705 Malvern Ave., HSNP, AR 71901 or call 501-623-4048. Be a part of “A Place To Care And Be Cared For.”
