Dementia caregiver workshop Thursday
The Garland County Library, in partnership with the Oaklawn Center on Aging’s Schmieding Home Caregiver Training program, will offer an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Family Caregiver workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. This workshop is one of several offered through the library’s partnership with the Oaklawn Center on Aging and it will focus on maintenance, dignity and quality of life, along with communication, caregiver stress and burnout.
“The caregiver workshop has been a wonderful partnership for us at the library,” said Cori Williams, programming librarian, in the press release. “We have been able to offer a great space for the Oaklawn Center to train new caregivers who need access to this important information and it has been a great way for us to give back to our community.”
The workshop is participant driven, allowing time for questions and discussion. Time is allowed for demonstration of activities, techniques and tools to enhance the caregiving experience. “This afternoon of training can give them (participants) the confidence they need to tackle the difficulties ahead and that is what we hope they can achieve,” said Williams.
The workshop is free to the public and lunch will be provided. Call Schmieding Home Caregiver Training, 276-0945, today to reserve a seat.
