Wanted local man reportedly flees from state trooper

A Glenwood man who is reportedly a suspect in an ongoing investigation was arrested Saturday night in Hot Springs after he allegedly attempted to flee from Arkansas State Police.

Jacob Adam Anzaldua, 38, a previously convicted felon on parole, was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Central Avenue and Alcorn Street and charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm by a certain person, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, possession of a defaced firearm, punishable by up to six years, misdemeanor fleeing in a vehicle, and other traffic violations.

He was being held on zero bond and set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Special Agent Russ Rhodes with the Arkansas State Police reportedly observed a Ford pickup he believed belonged to Anzaldua, who had outstanding warrants in Glenwood for his arrest and is reportedly a suspect in an ongoing investigation, at Dairy Queen, 708 W. Grand Ave.

The pickup reportedly pulled out of the restaurant’s parking lot and headed toward Central. Rhodes, who was in an unmarked unit, contacted marked state police units to conduct a traffic stop on the pickup, which allegedly had fictitious tags, and continued to follow it southbound on Central.

As marked state police units attempted to conduct a stop, the pickup truck reportedly fled through the area of Manor Circle and back onto Central, this time heading north. The pickup was eventually stopped at the intersection of Central and Alcorn and the driver, identified as Anzaldua, was taken into custody.

During a search of the vehicle, a loaded 9-mm Smith & Wesson pistol with a defaced serial number was allegedly located behind the front seat. Anzaldua was also charged with misdemeanor counts of driving on a suspended license, failure to register a vehicle, having fictitious tags, and no proof of insurance.
