Appalled at allegations

- Sharon Parrett Hot Springs

Dear editor:

I am appalled and discouraged at the level of so-called professionalism in regard to the allegations in the district judge race. Terri Harris should be ashamed of herself for stating she was an eyewitness when she was not and for dragging in someone who was not shown the picture and was, therefore, not harassed or offended and for not documenting this incident, only to drag it out and exaggerate it for political gain. Was she careless in her documentation for just this or did this carelessness in her attention to detail spill over into her official duties? Did she exaggerate case details for personal gain or is this an isolated incident only to help a friend or did that go on too while a prosecutor?

In terms of Ms. Barrett. Her apparent disregard of the law in terms of failure to appear and speeding tickets only makes me question her judgment on the bench. Did she drive while her license was suspended? If she did, will she enforce the law on the bench? Her excuses for not paying the fines is absurd. Many people have busy lives but still manage to take care of business. This is an open excuse now for anyone who would come before her to use and any defense attorney can now say you did and got away with it, so you are discriminating against my client if you punish them.

The shipping of a prescribed pain medicine is telling of someone who thumbs their nose at the law and common sense. Why would you go away and leave medicine behind? If you do, go to a pharmacy to have things taken care of, don’t ask a kid to ship a controlled substance for you. Duh, how many people get arrested for doing this and you call yourself a lawyer. The prescription may be valid, but she opened herself up to the scrutiny by the manner in which she dealt with that drug. Anyone else would have been before a judge. Sounds like she has gotten free hall passes on all these items because of being an attorney. That is wrong.

In terms of her financial disclosure. If you don’t do it online, send it certified mail — common sense. The Financial Disclosure forms clearly state any source of income, business holding or investment of you or your spouse. It also states you must disclose every creditor owed $5,000 and any past due amounts owed to the government. If she can’t handle filling out this form and sending it in correctly, how can she handle the office of judge, and if she is having this much trouble handling her personal life, I cannot expect her to handle the office of judge in a professional manner.

I am only one voter, but to think I will swallow these excuses and behavior from Ms. Harris and Ms. Barrett is saying I am stupid, and that I am not.
