Rumble strip work this week on Hwy. 70E

Installation of rumble strips on Highway 70 east of Hot Springs will require rolling lane closures and traffic shifts this week, according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, crews will mill rumble strips in the pavement along the shoulders and on either side of the continuous left-turn lane through Saturday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

When the center turn lane is being milled, vehicles traveling in the same direction as the milling machine will be stopped for short periods and then released to go around the pavement work, the department said in a news release.

When the shoulders are being milled, traffic will be shifted to inside lanes around the operations. This work will occur along the length of the project, between Interstate 30 and a quarter mile west of the Cedar Creek bridge.

Motorists should consider alternate routes during construction, including Highway 270 east. The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone at reduced speeds, and speeding fines double within the work zone.
