WNP features Mount Ida poet, Ginn

-

Mount Ida poet Zaeth Ginn will be this week’s feature for Wednesday Night Poetry at Kollective Coffee+Tea, 110 Central Ave.

The regular open mic session for all poets begins at 6:30 p.m. and Ginn will perform at 7 p.m., followed by a second round of open mic. Admission is free and open to all ages.

A native of Chicago, Ginn’s family moved to Oden when he was 4, and then to Hot Springs when he was in the third grade. While in high school he moved back to Oden, where he graduated in 2017. He is now a maintenance worker at Camp Ozark.

According to a news release, he began writing poetry as a hobby when he was 13. “What got me into it was my desire to be a songwriter,” Ginn said. “Poetry was a logical first step.” He plays the guitar and has composed a few songs. “But I’m not to the point where I’m ready to play them in public.”

His personal emotions are what inspires him to put pen to paper. “Something will move me emotionally and I just have to let it out. The result is poetry,” he said. Ginn calls himself a word weaver. “I like taking words and weaving them in unusual context using rhyme and metaphor. I tend to move toward the positive. Even if the poem sounds negative, it usually ends with a positive spin.”

Ginn doesn’t have any particular favorite poets. “I am attracted to individual poems more than I am to particular poets,” he said. He uses an example of a poem about technology that John Crawford performed recently. “I can’t say he is my favorite poet, but I sure do like that poem.”
