Peter’s Paint & Flooring
Serving Hot Springs for 112 years
It’s pretty impressive that the Clem family has been providing the people of Hot Springs with home improvement materials since 1965 — until you recognize that Peter’s Paint & Flooring has been an icon in Hot Springs since 1906.
In fact, the history of Peter’s Paint has been one of several generations of family loyalty. The store’s founder Robert Leonard Peters summoned son Robert Bernard Peters home from the University of Missouri, where he was playing football and enjoying fraternity life, to help run the family business. Dick Clem, the store’s owner from 1965 to 1987, summoned son Brooks, who had graduated from Hendrix College where he was on the swim team and was in the process of getting an MBA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, to “help out in the business for a while.” Brooks has worked at Peter’s ever since, buying the business from his parents in 1987.
Originally a paint and glass business on Ouachita Avenue, the Clem family offered framing and custom imprinting services along with paint, wall and floor coverings before building their distinctive Malvern Avenue headquarters in 1994.
This summer, Peter’s Paint will celebrate the company’s 112th anniversary with special events at the store.
Among the many products and services offered by Peter’s Paint & Flooring are a wide variety of brand names in all of the following categories: carpeting, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, paints, stains, faux finishes, laminate, vinyl flooring, wall coverings, window treatments and wood flooring.
Brooks Clem, Gary Sanders, Jennifer Pogue, John Lansdowne, Mike Crenshaw, Skye Gorena, Jodene Langford, Johanne Vidanage, John Gardner and all the professionals at Peter’s Paint & Flooring can assist with any home improvement project and have excellent contact lists of all local installation contractors you may need.
