KVRE 92.9 FM knows family. The only licensed radio station in Hot Springs Village since 1994, Polly and Tom Nichols founded the station with the purpose of developing a format that serves local — local news, local events, local talent and down-home broadcasting with a personal touch.
“The format has evolved through the years and we’ve changed music to keep our listening audience happy. But, regular programming like ‘Ask Your Neighbor’ with Tom and the ‘Scotty and Polly’ request hours continue to be favorites,” said Polly Nichols. “Daughter Alice brought us into the 21st century with online streaming and smart phone apps and now we get calls from California, Florida and Texas and beyond. We are proud to be one of the few family-owned radio stations in the country.”
KVRE 92.9 FM is the first choice for up to the minute news, weather, road conditions and the best variety of music. Mornings with Tracy includes 60s, 70s, and 80s favorites and even occasional country music call-in requests. Trivia Giveaway showers winners with concert, dinner and service tickets. “Listener-interactive programming is rare and our audience is loyal,” said Alice Bates, general manager. “And now, our live streaming listeners call in with requests and to play the Name the Sponsor game for cash. If we can mail a check, you can play.”
Many advertisers have been with KVRE from the beginning with measurable results. Public service community calendar announcements and Take-5 interviews give back valuable information. “We work hard to provide all political candidates a public forum as well as offer immediate election results, too,” said Tom Nichols, a 60-year broadcast veteran. “As long as Polly and I are around, you can always count on KVRE.”
