Hot Springs Gallery Walk

-

The monthly Hot Springs Gallery Walk, 5-9 p.m. Friday, will showcase works of art created by local and visiting artists.

Featured artists are often present to discuss their pieces and guests will get the opportunity to see a wide range of fine art.

The free first Friday event and opening receptions are open to the public at the following galleries

• American Art Gallery, 724 Central Ave. — The gallery will feature horsetail hair pottery by Valerie Hanks-Goetz and “Spring,” acrylic wall art by Jimmy Leach.

Hanks-Goetz will demonstrate pine needle basket weaving from 5-8 p.m. and Leach will continue his wall art exhibit. Also featured during Gallery Walk will be Arkansas scenes in pastel by Patricia Bailey, southwest gourds by Rick Carter, woodturnings by Virgil Barksdale, southwest jewelry by various artists, and art by Thomas Kinkade in Gallery II.

• Artists’ Workshop Gallery,

610-A Central Ave. — The June featured artists are Nina Louton and Tom Seaman.

A native Arkansan and born the ninth of 10 children on a farm near Denby Point, now under Lake Ouachita, Louton began studying art with her mother, focusing on paper, clay, cloth, wax and gourd art, and doing clothing design and gardening.

Louton has a B.S.E. and master’s degree from Henderson State University. She believes that art is a gateway to academic achievement, a news release said.

“I often allow the subject to dictate the way I paint; I love to express my feelings with color, light, shape and shading, and to allow the flow of life with its excitement, enjoyment and pain. Building pottery satisfies something special for me — opening the kiln on a set of new glazed pottery is beyond exhilarating,” she said.

Louton works, judges, and accepts commissions in all mediums.

Seaman’s art reflects the diversity of his experience. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, he nurtured a deep appreciation for art, architecture and the inner city, longing for escape and natural beauty. He left a Ph.D. program in research psychology after completing his master’s degree to pursue a business career that led to management positions in information technology and manufacturing. He has worked alongside immigrants at a meatpacking plant, studied human and animal subjects in a psychological laboratory, and advised top management in corporate boardrooms in the U.S. and Europe.

His June 2018 exhibit will feature varied subjects, evoking a range of moods from the excitement of bustling cityscapes to the tranquillity of his captivating underwater scenes. His depiction of people in everyday settings often reminds viewers of their own life experience. His recent works celebrate the natural beauty of Arkansas.

The featured miniature artists for June are Marlene Gremillion and Louton.

“The V Show” is a group exhibition, co-curated by Emergent Arts and Angie Ezekiel, also known as Sylvia Stems, cabaret singer. Thirty local artists are exhibiting positive works of art that highlight the female form.
