Buckville descendants have reunion June 10
June 10 will be the 76th reunion at the ole Buckville Church, since the farmers had to give up their homes and farmland. The loggers and store owners also lost their home to Blakely Dam and Lake Ouachita. They started moving out of the communities in the 1930s and continued until the dam was being “backed up” in 1951.
The church once stood on a hill overlooking the Buckville community. The church was moved from the original site by a group of men placing the church on logs and with a truck, rolled it to a site that would be above the water line when the lake filled. The church is the only structure that remains intact from the area now under Lake Ouachita. It is no longer used for regular services, but hosts Bucktowners and friends each second Sunday in June.
Attendees look forward to seeing all the descendants and friends at the reunion, so please bring a picnic lunch, lawn chairs, stories, friendship and fellowship and join in for the day which will begin at 10 a.m.
