A Hot Springs man and a Pearcy woman were arrested on felony charges Monday after drugs and a firearm were allegedly found in his vehicle.

Jesse James Perdue, 24, a previously convicted felon who lists a David Street address, was taken into custody around 8 p.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years, possession of firearms by certain persons and possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to six years.

Kayla Edmond, 26, who lists a James Street address, was also arrested and charged with possession of meth with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to six years.

Perdue remained in custody Tuesday on zero bond while Edmond remained in custody on $3,500 bond, and both are set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, at around 5 p.m. Monday Hot Springs police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Ostego Street in reference to a disturbance.

Officer Joey Vanderburg made contact with the two occupants of a Honda Accord parked in the front yard of the residence, identified as Perdue and Edmond, both convicted felons with search waivers on file.

Vanderburg reportedly noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver, Perdue, if there was anything in the vehicle. Perdue reportedly admitted there was possibly a firearm and that Edmond “may have something.”

Edmond reportedly told police she had a small amount of meth in her bag.

After a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded 9-mm pistol between the driver’s door and seat and a gray backpack containing several small plastic baggies, lighters, a glass pipe and digital scales.

Officers also reportedly found a silver case containing two baggies, each with 0.5 gram of what later tested positive for meth and a bag containing a marijuana grinder and 4.5 grams of what later tested positive for marijuana.
