OBU swimmers Orekhov, Day tabbed second-team all-conference

ARKADELPHI­A — Ouachita Baptist swimmers Artemii Orekhov and Noah Day were named to the All-New South Intercolle­giate Swim Conference Second Team earlier this week.

Orekhov, of Enerhodar, Ukraine, collected 54 individual points over the 2018 swimming season. The highlight of the season for Orekhov came on day two of the NSISC Championsh­ips hosted at Delta State University. The junior swimmer set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststro­ke with a time of 2:00.70. Orekhov was the top qualifier for the final round of the event, and he placed fifth in the final round of the event.

Day, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, earned 31 individual points over the 2018 swimming season. He turned in a top five performanc­e during day two of the NSISC Championsh­ips. Day finished the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:51.44.

In order to be named to the Second Team, any swimmer or diver who is a runner up in any individual or relay event will automatica­lly be deemed to the second team, plus the next highest scoring individual­s up to 18 swimmers. Both Orekhov and Day meet the requiremen­t with the top five finishes at the conference championsh­ips.

Hot Springs County Club to host free four-ball tennis tournament

Daniel Cornelison recently invited local tennis players to the Hot Springs Country Club’s four-ball tennis tournament on June 22. He is the club’s new tennis director.

The format is one set of regular scoring with a tiebreaker at six-all. The winners will move up and the losers will move down. Participan­ts will switch partners after each rotation.

Awards will be presented for first, second and third places. Additional prizes will also be presented.

Cornelison said strawberri­es and cream, muffins and mimosas will be available for participan­ts to enjoy before, during and after play.

Participan­ts will begin play at 8:45 a.m.
