Man killed in 3rd fatal wreck since Wednesday
A Hot Springs man was killed early Friday in a head-on collision on Fox Pass Cutoff, becoming the third person to die in a fatal wreck in the area since early Wednesday morning.
Steven Allen Reed, 48, of Hot Springs, driving a 1996 Chrysler Sebring, was southbound in the 500 block of Fox Pass shortly after 5:30 a.m. when he reportedly crossed the centerline and collided headon with a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Roger Wayne Alred, 52, also of Hot Springs.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene by Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley. Alred and a passenger in Reed’s
vehicle, identified as Tracey Marie Steele, 46, of Mountain Pine, were injured and transported by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment.
The Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary noted conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck.
On Wednesday, shortly after 12:30 a.m., Ashley E. Pharr, 34, of Hot Springs, driving a 2007 Toyota 4Runner, was reportedly westbound on Interstate 30 near the 115 mile marker in Saline County when she lost control, crossed the median and the north service road and struck the east end of the Troutt Motel, located at 15438 I-30.
Pharr was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A Little Rock woman, identified as Dharmishthaben D. Patel, 45, who was sleeping in the motel, was struck by the car and suffered non life-threatening injuries.
At around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jackie Gray, 67, of Arkadelphia, was westbound on Highway 70 east near Lonsdale in a 2002 Buick Rendezvous when he traveled over the middle turn lane, two eastbound traffic lanes, through a roadside ditch and struck a tree with the front of his car.
Gray was pronounced dead at the scene by Smedley after attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
In both wrecks Wednesday, the fatal crash summaries listed the conditions as clear and dry.
