HSV drops game to Searcy in Sheridan

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

SHERIDAN — Graves Sports could not get a hit as Searcy rolled to a 4-1 victory at the Sheridan Wood Bat Tournament at Sheridan Recreation Center.

Despite struggling with errors Wednesday night, Hot Springs Village committed only two errors while giving up seven hits in the loss.

Neither team got on the board in the first inning, but Searcy picked up two in the top of the second to take the early lead that it never relinquished. Searcy’s Jaxsen Burton reached on an error by third baseman Daeton Bassett to lead off the inning, and courtesy runner Erick Rodriguez reached third after an error by pitcher Drake Turner before scoring on a single by Mikey Huddy. Huddy stole second before a single by Eli Henley sent him home for a 2-0 lead.

Hot Springs Village picked up its lone run in the bottom of the inning. Montana Carden reached on a dropped third strike before Joey Kilzner stepped in to run for him. Oliver Nasilai reached second on an error as Kilzner went to third, and with two outs, Kilzner scored on a wild pitch to pull Graves Sports within 2-1.

The two teams battled it out, keeping the score unchanged until the top of the seventh. A double by Burton started things for Searcy before Huddy hit a single to put runners in the corners. Henley hit a sacrifice fly to send Burton home and Huddy to third before Logan Passmore hit a line-drive single to center field to plate Huddy to set the final.

Turner picked up the loss for Hot Springs Village, going all seven innings. He gave up three earned runs off seven hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Austin Williams collected the win for Searcy, giving up one unearned run off four walks while striking out 12 in seven innings on the mound.

Race Tittle was 0-for-1 with two walks, Chase Pederson was 0-for-1 with one walk and Cade Jackson was 0-for-2 with one walk.

Graves Sports will face El Dorado at 5:30 p.m. today in the tournament.
