WWC awards seven nursing scholarships

-

Hot Springs Women’s Welcome Club recently held its 2018 Annual Honors Day meeting where select National Park nursing students were presented with scholarships to assist them in their studies.

This year, the National Park College Nursing Student Affairs Committee selected nine candidates based on their GPAs. The recipients had completed their first semester, maintaining at least a high “C” average. The scholarship will provide financial assistance for the recipients in their second year of study. Criteria and the process of scholarship selection included a written application and letter of reference. Each candidate was interviewed by the WWC Nursing Scholarship Committee who looked for strength in academics, demonstrated need, commitment to nursing, enthusiasm and professionalism. Seven of the nine candidates were selected and received $1,000 scholarships each. This year’s NPC Nursing student recipients were: Alex Drake, Michel Kouetcha, Sarah Wyatt, Kaitlin Womble, Carli Nitch, Rami Crow and Sarah Johnson.

The Hot Springs Women’s Welcome Club began sponsoring nursing students who attended practical nursing training at Ouachita Hospital shortly after the club was founded in 1961. After 50 years, WWC continues to give $3,000-$6,000 annually in scholarships to National Park College Nursing Program students.
