Trump is right
Dear editor:
I didn’t vote for Donald Trump and believe he will go down as one of the worst presidents in history. He’s an immoral person. Yet he is getting one thing right, even if he’s doing it for the wrong reasons, and that is the deportation of illegal aliens and unfortunate separation of them and their children.
Trump is doing it for political reasons, and because he’s a mean-spirited and hateful human being, in my opinion.
Nonetheless, it needs to be done. Why? First, it will serve as a deterrent to those thinking about entering our country illegally. Second, lax immigration policies do present a security threat to our nation.
More importantly, a few facts need to be considered and these are from the Census Bureau: In 1918, our population was roughly just under 100 million. Fifty years later, in 1968, it had grown to just over 200 million. It now currently stands at over 325 million. And those are just legal registered citizens.
Our country has only so many resources: jobs, water, food, land, etc.; we are not getting any bigger geographically and will reach a point of sustainability that can only accommodate so many humans. Other countries have a much higher threshold in accepting citizenship and/or occupancy. We need to follow some of those models.
Many of these facing deportation may well be good people; nonetheless, they committed an illegal act in coming to this country and laws have consequences.
I would urge one thing, however: no one wants to separate a family. So offer those being swept up a chance to simply sign a waiver that they are here illegally and agree to allow the family to be deported together. That’s fair.
