- REBEKAH HEDGES

Inspired by The Color Run, known as “the happiest 5,000 meters on the planet,” the Hot Springs Child Care Center will host its inaugural Fun in the Sun Color Run Saturday.

More than 125 adults and children have already registered for the run, which is free to the public, that will be held at 8 a.m. in the center’s parking lot, located at 600 Main St. Raffles and giveaways will be included in addition to experiencing the track with colored powder and four “color stations.”

Jessica Romero, community service worker with the Hot Springs Child Care Center, said she was excited to see the community participation and thrilled to hold 31 giveaways with two valued up to $200.

“Our staff came together and thought this is a fun event to host in the summer for families,” she said.

Romero said local businesses such as Alliance Rubber Co., Hot Springs Pediatric, and Westrock Dental sponsored the event. The first 300 participants will receive a free T-shirt, and water donated by multiple companies such as Mountain Valley Spring Water and Sam’s Club will be handed out during the race.

The center facilitates 348 children in it Early Head Start and ABC Pre-K programs and relies on in-kind donations to accomplish its mission to help low-income families in need of child care.

“We want the community to get involved and host an event to hopefully help increase volunteers,” Romero said.

The center said in a news release that the event should “bring the families closer to our center as well as spend good one-on-one time with their children.”
