OBU swim teams make Scholar All-America list

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORFOLK — The Ouachita Baptist men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were recently named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America team list.

The women’s team accumulated a 3.55 team grade point average during the spring semester.

“A 3.55 average just blows my mind,” said Ouachita head swimming and diving coach Steven Bostick. “These girls are making it in everything from biology to English. I think that soon they can break into the top 10 academically.

“I would like to highlight the efforts of senior Kristina Beall, who graduated with a 3.89 and will be pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Alabama. These young ladies are capitalizing on all Ouachita academics and athletics has to offer.”

Beall is from Cedar Parks, Texas.

Their male counterparts in the pool accumulated a 3.11 GPA during the spring semester.

“I’m very proud of the men’s team,” Bostick responded. “They made it a goal first semester to have over a 3.0 and fell just short. It’s nice to see a group of men who can step up after a setback and meet the expectation we put on them. The best part of this group is they won’t be happy with a 3.11. These young men want to be the best at it all faith, family, academics and athletics.”

The CSCAA recognizes teams with the Scholar All-America Award for achieving a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The list included 710 teams named for the spring 2018 semester.

The top Division II program for the women was Sioux Falls, which accumulated a team GPA of 3.80. On the men’s side, it was Adelphi with a team GPA of 3.64.
