Immigration fantasies

-

Dear editor:

Can someone explain to me why the resisters, Never-Trumpers, anti-progressives, Democrats, Socialists and an ignoramus with a pen seem to be immune from being inoculated with civility, common sense and letters containing facts and fairness?

The last barrage of bombastic and hateful letters accused the INS of atrocities and compared the separation of illegal alien children to the Nazi persecution of the Jews. Until you have been to Auschwitz or Dacha or visited the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem those comments are absurd and are outrageous lies. The despicable Paul Krugman used the term putting children in cages when the photo he referred to was taken during the Obama administration. Where was he in 2014 when that photo was taken?

Another dunce tried quoting the words on the foot of the Statue of Liberty, which imply we have always taken everyone who landed on our shores. Really? If they had visited Ellis Island and the immigration museum and studied the restrictions placed on immigrants who landed there perhaps, they would get an accurate picture. People were turned away during that period for numerous reasons including; inability to support themselves, lack of useful skills, no justifiable reason for immigrating and even illness where quarantines where used.

How about some facts? Citizens of this country who are arrested for DWI, drug possession, shoplifting and other crimes have their children taken from them. So why are illegals suddenly a different problem? The answer is because a Republican is in office and the same actions by a Democrat bring zero outcry. Hypocrisy and hatefulness on display.

Individuals and families who come to our border, and go to one of the numerus border crossings, (Texas has over 30) and ask for the asylum are not detained. (Ask Texas Lt Gov.’s Dan Patrick’s office for details) However, those who sneak over the border and apprehended by the Border Patrol are detained. Those with children have them separated while the adults are detained until a deportation hearing. Releasing the family on their word to return for a hearing normally results in a no-show at the hearing.

Please don’t tell me these children are being abused when their parents placed them at considerable risk crossing lands south of the US border. None of these children has had air conditioning nor regular meals as provided by the US government. Claiming abuse is nonsensical fiction nor is a crying child sign of abuse. It is time for fairness and sanity on the illegal immigration issue and is not a reason bludgeon the Republicans with lies and manufactured facts. Dennis L. Bosch Hot Springs
