Get a backbone, citizens
Dear editor:
Almost all Republican politicians are indifferent to or afraid of Trump; the same is true of many Garland County residents when it comes to dealing with the city board of directors! Our water/ sewer rates are unjustly high and business development has been terminated. The city keeps ignoring all of us; their motto is “They are just customers, not voting city residents.”
It is time for us to get a backbone! Our quorum court recently gave the Metro Partnership (with a little crying) $75K of our money to help the city. Why don’t we demand them to get that money back and use it to start a feasibility study for a county water system; we’ve already paid for the infrastructure.
The initial cost may be high, but our city bills will keep climbing steeply for the next three years (or more); let’s spend that money to help grow the county economy, not the city. Last year, the city used almost $1 million of our excess water/sewer funds to help purchase new city police radios. The city is also actively stealing (annexing) prime county neighborhoods, again, slapping us down. We can start by shopping and eating in establishments outside city limits, then calling our quorum court representatives to get moving on our independence! Jim Pumphrey Garland County
P.S. Let’s see how much of our water/ sewer money they will use to pay off the ex-city manager?
