Michael Cauchi
AMITY — Michael “Mike” Cauchi, age 88, of Amity, passed away on Wednesday, July 11,
2018.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1930, on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, the son of Anthony and Carmela Cauchi. In 1951, he was married to Mary Margaret Florence Cauchi, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Cauchi and Tarcisid Cauchi; and two sisters, Mary Buttigieg and Gesualda DeBattista.
Mike was a self-taught electronics technician and worked as a television repairman. He was also a licensed ham radio operator. Later years, he was employed at Barksdale Lumber Company and Ouachita Marine Boat Plant. He was a disabled United States Army veteran of the Korean War and awarded the Purple Heart. He enjoyed woodworking, making gun cabinets and cedar chests, and he was a gifted artist who loved to paint.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Shari Cauchi, of Amity; his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Richard Joiner, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; three grandchildren and their spouses, David Walt and Vanessa Smith, of San Diego, Calif., Kristian Smith, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Deann and Brandon Cogburn, of Amity; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and three brothers and their spouses, Maurice and Rita Cauchi, of Amity, Joseph and Mary Cauchi and George and Mary Cauchi, all of Malta, Europe.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday in the Alpine Cemetery with Brother John McAnally officiating.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
