What fellowship has light with darkness?

- CRAIG JOYNER

Society needs light to shine into the ever-increasing evil darkness that seems to be descending upon all of us. I’m referring to spiritual light verses spiritual darkness. Moral decadence is rampant — hatred for those who don’t conform to the “status-quo” — Islamic extremists with blind hatred toward anything and everything, including their own Muslim brothers — respect for others at an all-time low — threat of nuclear war — drugs and suicide, all

encompasses us in darkness and despair.

So, what is the answer? What can bring light into a dark world? Have you considered the light Jesus Christ could and will do for you and the world? For we read in John 1:4-5, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. Now the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

But for those individuals who chose to acknowledge the light of Jesus, “shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life,” John 8:12. How can we have more of this light? By reading the Scriptures to show you the way, asking for guidance from the Lord. Psalm 119:105 states that the Word, or Jesus, is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path through life. That’s right, the words written in your Bible guides you to the Light, Jesus, that gives you a moral compass and discernment to make the right decisions in our everyday lives.

Proverbs 6:23 gives us a clue, “For the Commandment is a lamp and the law is light and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” Don’t turn from the Light that the Lord is willing to provide. You can get lost in the darkness quite easily and the way back to the Light could be a long and painful journey. All the sound teachings in the Scriptures are for your good to have a happy and rewarding life.

John 3:19-21 gives us sound advice that is so applicable to our age we live in, “The Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But those who draw toward the Light of the Lord are thirsting for truth and their deeds to be clearly seen, for they desire to do what is pleasing to the Lord.”

John 12:35-36 is a warning that Jesus revealed during His earthly ministry that He would be with them a little while longer so, “walk while you have the Light, lest darkness overtake you. Those who walk in darkness do not know where they are going. While you have the Light, believe in the Light, that you may become the children of God.” Of course we have the Holy Spirit to guide us if we choose the Light to live by.

The Light is the Word — the Word is the Son of God, and He desires you to be part of His family. Read Romans 8:14-17 where we read that those who share in His Spirit are children of God — and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. “If we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

So, let His Light shine into your hearts, come before Him with a humble heart and a repentant spirit. Trust me, He will open His arms to you. He did for me, and believe me, I was in a very dark place. Yet, He opened the door of salvation to me. Please don’t drift towards darkness. Beware brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the Light,” that is in believing in your Savior, Jesus, Hebrews 3:12.

Sin hardens your heart away from the Light. Stay in the Light, hold fast to the faith God has given you to believe and to stay steadfast in the Light to the end. This is the only answer to all our problems and the answer to true peace in the world.

My wish is all who read this article will reach out to His shinning Light for daily guidance and a sound mind.
