Utility work to affect parts of Lakeside, Burchwood Bay

The eastbound lane of Lakeside Road, between Malvern Avenue and Oakcrest Street, will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today for water main repair. Signs will be posted and motorists should use caution when traveling in the work area.

The intersection of Burchwood Bay Road and Ard Point will be closed to through traffic beginning Friday through Aug. 31 for a communication cable installation. Work crews will be present in the shoulder of Burchwood Bay Road and Ard Point.

Signs will be posted, and motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the street closure.

United Way fundraiser set for Monday at Bone’s

Bone’s Chophouse will host a four-course dinner fundraiser for United Way of the Ouachitas at 6 p.m. Monday.

Empowerment conference for girls slated for Saturday

The inaugural Diamonds In The Rough of Hot Springs Empowerment Conference for girls 12 to 18 years old will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 125 Wellness Way.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. The keynote speaker, Tara Shephard, is founder of At Promise Mentoring Program of Little Rock and author of “Who Am I.” Free wellness checks will be offered to attendees.

The conference is free to girls who register using the Diamonds In the Rough Empowerment Conference registration link with their parent’s consent. Each registered attendee will receive free breakfast, lunch, T-shirt and an autographed copy of Shephard’s book.

Community dinner honors law enforcement

Haven United Methodist Church, 107 Burroughs St., will host a “Unity in the Community Dinner” at 6 p.m. Friday to honor the city and county law enforcement agencies during its Vacation Bible School closing celebration.
