Arrest made in double shooting

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

An 18-yearold Hot Springs man was arrested Friday night in connection with Thursday night’s shooting of two women on Rector Street, Hot Springs police said in a news release.

Julius Lamar Rutledge, 18, of

Hot Springs, was charged with two counts of first-degree battery and one count of committing a terroristic act.

Rutledge was being held at the Garland County Detention Center on a zero bond on Saturday.

The Hot Springs Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Hot Springs Police Department SWAT team, executed a search warrant at 608 Rector St. at 7:41 p.m. Friday in reference to the double shooting at 203 Rector St., the release said.

Earlier Friday, police had issued a news release saying that, at around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to 203 Rector St. in reference to a shooting and arrived to find two women in the roadway in front of the residence.

An officer at the scene told The Sentinel-Record one victim sustained life-threatening injuries while the other had non life-threatening injuries. Both were transported from the scene by ambulance to local hospitals.

The condition, names or ages of the two women “is not being released at this time,” the release said.

A car parked in the 200 block of Rector at the time of the shooting appeared to have one of its windows shot out and police were processing it as part of the scene.

“Investigators are working the case and are following up on leads. We encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact the Hot Springs Police Department at 501-321-6789. Callers can remain anonymous,” the release said.

About three hours later, at around 12:25 a.m. Friday, there was a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Rector and a house was reportedly struck by bullets. No one was injured in the second shooting and Cpl. Joey Williams said Friday there was no evidence the two incidents were connected.
