Aliens among us

-

Dear editor:

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Porter’s column (“Interstellar stalkers,” July 15) about UFO sightings and the supposed aliens that pilot them. He obviously put his tongue thoroughly in his cheek and seemed to be enjoying himself. His statistical information on the myriad reports of UFOs seen in the U.S. was impressive, but his statement that no photos had been taken of these “starships” was inaccurate. The Air Force’s “Blue Book Project” has many pictures of these ships.

More than 70 years ago, a UFO purportedly crashed near Roswell, N.M., as claimed by Army officials who later said it was a weather instrument balloon. Not to be daunted, sci-fi/fantasy buffs would not let the story die and sightings were rampant during the 1950s. Hollywood saw a potential moneymaking opportunity and produced such films as “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” “War of the Worlds,” “Earth vs. the Flying Saucers,” ad infinitum.

According to the Bible, Satan is the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2b). This means he has limited power in the realm of our atmosphere above the earth. He can cause sightings of any kind in the sky that have no substance. First Corinthians 2:11 says that Satan has many “devices” in which to keep people from accepting the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are warned to be aware of “the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).

While there are no Martians or Jupiterites that have come visiting the Earth, there are aliens living and working among mankind (Hebrews

13:2). When I entered the world, I lived many years without Christ and without hope (Ephesians 2:12), but I invited Jesus into my heart as Savior (Romans 10:13) and was transformed into an alien who does not conform to this world (Romans 12:2).

As an alien, I “have a thing” for people because God says I must love my neighbor (Romans 13:9g), but I must not love the world (1 John 2:1517). I “stalk” because Jesus said I am to be His witness (Acts 1:8). The message I have for those who are lost is not about “traveling at the speed of light” or “laser beam death rays,” but about the ray of eternal life through Jesus Christ, “the true Light” (John 1:9; 3:16).

“The next time you see something odd in the sky” could very well be the return of Jesus to take His children home to heaven. Be ready, for He will come like “a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2).
