Serving its community for generations
JESSIEVILLE — The Jessieville School District has served as the center of the community for multiple generations of families. The history of the district distinguishes us from other districts in that it was established in order to bring the surrounding communities together and unite them as one.
As our community has grown both in Hot Springs Village and the surrounding areas, Jessieville School District continues to have additional generations of families returning home as well as new families who have moved to our area.
Jessieville School District, K-12, will place extra emphasis on literacy and writing for the coming year. Teachers will incorporate these concepts into every subject area and encourage students to master these critical skills. Students will be exposed to several different ways literacy and writing can help them now and into the future as they enter the workforce.
The HUB program will start its second year at Jessieville High School. The HUB program is a nontraditional educational route for students. It offers flexible options for learning via a combination of online and faceto-face courses. The students who enroll in this program can also receive job skills training
that will assist them in gaining employment upon graduation.
After two years of investigation and planning, the high school will also be starting an internship program and career academies. This program will begin in the ninth grade with a Keystone course. Internships will be on a limited basis for juniors and seniors who meet specific criteria in 2018-19. Additional courses and internships will be phased in each year over the next four years.
The 21st Century Grant has been awarded to Jessieville Middle School and Jessieville High School for 2018-19. Jessieville will partner with National Park College and Cedar Mountain Boys and Girls Club in order to provide after-school services for students. The services will include adult GED, student enrichment and remedial classes as well as college concurrent credit opportunities. The 21st Century Grant is in the fifth year with Jessieville Elementary. They will continue to offer after-school services for students. Some of the classes include STEM, cooking, dance and art. The offerings change every nine weeks.
As stated earlier, Jessieville is a growing school with a strong tradition. We invite anyone to come out and see the beautiful campus and many upgraded facilities including a new entrance on the east side of campus. The new entrance will assist in having an improved traffic flow during drop-off and pickup times. The Elementary PTO has purchased a new shade awning that will be stretched over the current playground structure. Picnic tables with umbrellas have been placed between the administrative building and Glazener gym for high school students to have additional seating during lunch.
The Welcome Home Bash has been scheduled for Aug. 13 from 3:30-5 p.m. There will be free startup school supplies for all students, K-12, a bounce house, games, face painting and free hot dogs. At 5 p.m., meetings will be held for those students and parents entering Kindergarten (cafeteria), sixth grade (Vell Meredith Library), and ninth grade (Jeff Click Board Room).
