Robert Heikes

Robert “Bob” Heikes, age 77, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, with family by his side.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1940, in Lenora, Kan., the son of Kenneth Heikes and Eula Goldsby Heikes. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He had many successful business ventures, including the establishment of a sheep and goat operation in Kansas, managing a maple syrup and sheep operation in Connecticut before moving back to the Midwest and eventually to Hot Springs, where he built a boat dock renovation business. He was also an artist and prolific inventor who never met a tool that didn’t need modified. Some were not pretty, but they were certainly functional.

Bob’s natural curiosity, humor and ability to connect with all kinds of people made him someone who was a genuine friend to everyone who crossed his path. Bob was a kind, humble man who loved life — a man that purposely veered off the beaten path to drive 100 miles out of his way to see things like the world’s largest ball of twine.

More than anything, Bob cherished the relationships he had with family, friends and all those he worked for and with over the years.

But most of all, Bob will be remembered as a hard-working, disciplined man of integrity who firmly believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Valerie Heikes, of Apex, N.C., and David and Gwenn Heikes, of White Hall; one daughter, Kristi Lynn, of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Heikes, Elaina Heikes, Aaron Heikes and Daniel Heikes; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Rhonda Heikes, of Lenora, Kan.; the mother of his children, Judy Kelly, of Hot Springs; nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at The Homestead Venue, 197 Orbit Road, Pearcy, AR 71964.

An additional celebration and service will be held in Lenora, Kan., at a later date.

John A. Roland

John Andrew Roland departed this world on Aug. 11, 2018.

He left behind a large loving family; his mother Elanna Drye; his father, Denzil Roland; and his siblings, Elizabeth, Aaron, Mary, Emma, Matthew and Deniel May.

There will never be a day that passes that he is not thought of. John was known for his laughter and notorious jokes. He had an ability to see someone for who they really are and offer a grace like no one else could. His little brother Matthew said “no one hugged like John did” and that is so true. His hugs were so tight and he truly let you know how he felt about you. He always made everyone around him feel special. He was the type of person who would stay up all night just to talk to someone having a hard time. He loved taking pictures, of all of his family, friends, beautiful landscapes and himself. He will be truly missed by the many people who loved him dearly.

A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, in the chapel of Gross Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Gross Funeral Home.
